Also the way those function is they are bound to a specific single network name and are not designed for multiple network names like a laptop would. What is basically happening is the device is clinging onto that last few shreds of signal from the Asus and not letting the device roam to a different AP or SSID. They need to be the same and need to be on different channels regardless if they are different or same SSID. So yeah you're gonna have issues if they are different SSIDs. Ok so the Unifi switch is connected to the switch port on the Asus. 2 nanohds should cover a 2400sqft house quite nicely, unless you have coverage issues or multiple levels I would turn off the wireless on the Asus unit and let the nanos handle the wifi. It's best to look at what is in use at each area where the access points are going to live to find the best channels. Setting them to auto should work but doesn't always. You should always have multiple access points on different non overlapping channels. If you change names then they won't seamless handoff between them quite as easily as a device is always looking for the network it was attached to before it drops and goes looking for a new one. ![]() So if you set 2 wireless access points on the same channel with the same SSID the closest one will always win, to get separation you have to either change channels or said names. So a couple issues when mixing gear and manufacturer.įirst where is the Unifi switch attached to on the Asus router, Unifi switch port number one goes to Asus port. ![]()
